In December, we polled our TLTG FridayLive! audience asking "In applying Universal Design to online teaching/learning, which of these have you already used?" Providing multiple means of representation received the lowest number of votes. Our panel will share examples from their tool box of various ways to employed Multiple Means of Representation.
Here a look back at some of our previous events related to employing Universal Design.

Dr. Linda Macaulay is the Instructional Technologist at Elizabethtown College (PA). She has over 15 years of experience teaching in online, blended, and traditional higher education programs. Before coming to the college, she taught graduate and undergraduate educational technology courses and was also an elementary teacher for eleven years. Her background in leadership for change, technology, and learning theory provides a broad base of knowledge to support faculty as they work to enhance their face-to-face, blended, and online courses with innovative teaching strategies and technology. She states that she is a “teacher first, techie second” because it is good teaching and course design that makes all the difference for student success. She lives in Landisville, PA with her husband, son and foster children and enjoys listening to Kenny Rogers’ music and camping with her family to unplug and recharge.
Trey Mireles. What started out as a young kid working as a teaching assistant in a summer school class grew into a love education. Trey Mirelesʼ formal path to becoming an educator began with a
Bachelorʼs degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. During this time he had the opportunity to work with students with physical and emotional disabilities while working in special education in the Madison school district. Completing an MS in Educational Psychology from Capella University provided a theoretical background to support the instructional practices he models and shares. Trey currently works at Madison Area Technical College as a Psychology Instructor and the Arts and Sciences Accelerated Program Coordinator. His strengths as an educator and leader in the field of innovative learning strategies has led to additional opportunities to shape the direction of instruction at Madison College and within the Wisconsin Technical College System. His expertise has been recognized and shared at additional conferences and workshops both locally and nationally.
Treyʼs unique experiences and degree allow him to combine an understanding of social sciences and neuropsychology to education. This allows him to provide valuable insights into how the mind works and how to leverage this understanding to become a better educator.
Penny Kuckkahn, among many other roles is also a Senior Associate with the TLT Group and regular contributor. She began her now 20 plus career in education during the summers while in college as a counselor/teacher of Japanese. She taught Japanese for 10 years via instructional television for middle and high school students. This is where her passion for instructional technology began and she pioneered the use of instructional technology with K-12 teachers in her role as Staff Development Coordinator and eventually Assistant Director for the Nicolet Distance Education Network. Penny's work at Nicolet College began as a Pk-12 relations coordinator where she built connections with school districts, she then shifted to instructional design where she again taps her passion for technology. She believes in helping faculty and student discover and seek an understanding of their content.
