Clothing the Emperor instead of Leaping into the Chasm: Working on the Open Letter

Working Title of Open Letter:

"Oversimplifications and Overgeneralizations about Online Education"

an Open Letter Prompted by Susan Dynarski's provocative article:

“Online Courses Are Harming the Students Who Need the Most Help"

Is something like the following likely to provoke useful/interesting discussion this Friday (Feb 23)?

Because

Most students can succeed in some kinds of online courses; and
Not every student can succeed in every online course; and
Some students are unlikely to succeed in most online courses...

We need some interesting, provocative, compelling examples.

Please prepare for Feb 23 FridayLive! by doing this (at least in your mind):

I. Describe a student. Describe conditions and strategies that would be necessary for this student to succeed in an online course.

Explain a little about what you have in mind for "succeed" in this instance. Describe some characteristics of the student that led you to select the conditions and strategies that you suggested. Describe some characteristics of the course that would be good for this kind of student

II. Describe a student (could be same as for I.) Describe obstacles that would prevent this student from succeeding in an online course.

Explain a little about what you have in mind for "succeeding" in this instance. Describe some characteristics of the student that led you to select the obstacles and the course.

Also, if you have time,... SELECT A NUGGET TO TWEET TO DYNARSKI ET AL.... BEFORE OUR LETTER IS READY!
