Plan
Guided and reflective shared experience of good (but not necessarily definitive) very large mostly-online open courses (MOOCs, etc.)
Our  goals are to help faculty and other academic professionals
1.  Understand what very large mostly-online open courses (MOOCs, etc.)  can do to  to improve teaching, learning and faculty/professional development.
2.  Decide whether or not to use very large mostly-online open courses (MOOCs, etc.), and so how to find and select  them .
3.  Use - effectively and comfortably - such courses to improve undergraduate courses and programs, and faculty/professional development programs.
4.  Support participants in such courses and/or enhance such courses to make them more beneficial - even without the guidance, permission, or recognition of the courses’ leaders and sponsors.

Not about how to produce or lead MOOCs or other very large online courses.  Not for people who intend to use MOOCs  PRIMARILY to reduce costs,  eliminate faculty, drastically reduce workload, or close colleges.  Not for lazy teachers or greedy administrators.

Participants will explore MOOCs and related course offerings together and report findings in FridayLive!
Our first cohort will participate in “Current/Future State of Higher Education” [ CFHE12 and more info below] which offers 6 weekly topics  October 8 to November 18, 2012
SMOOCHERS will have access to a listserv for asynchronous communication and be invited to a weekly online synchronous session in the TLT Group’s Adobe Connect classroom - Fridays, 1PM ET.

NOTE:  We will work closely with Scott Simkins’ subgroup centered in Greensboro, NC which plans to include some Face-to-Face activities.

Description to follow.

Participants should sign-in 15 minutes early for tech instructions and to meet others in the group; they also have the option of remaining online for a half-hour follow-up discussion immediately after the workshop.

All of the TLT Group’s online offerings include use of “low threshold” tools, examination of controversial issues, options for participants with a range of experience, and suggestions for assessment as you integrate what you’ve learned into your repertoire.
